Mayor Jeff Porter Presents Show of Support for Pet’s Trust Miami at To Save Lives Event

Mayor Jeff Porter presented a copy of a resolution supporting Pet’s Trust Miami to Pet’s Trust Miami President Michael Rosenberg, and Co-Founder Rita Schwartz, during their To Save Lives event on November 21, 2014. The resolution, passed and adopted by Homestead’s City Council in April, encourages the Mayor and Commissioners of Miami-Dade County to support Pet’s Trust Miami in their mission to improve animal welfare. Homestead was the first of 18 cities to pass similar resolutions supporting Pet’s Trust Miami.

“Homestead has made great strides in promoting animal welfare,” said Mayor Jeff Porter. “Our community not only voted to help save our animals, but also approved funding to help finance the solution. We recognize that spay/neuter surgeries are the key to ending the overpopulation of dogs and cats in our community and pledge to support Pet’s Trust in their mission.”

Pet’s Trust Miami is a citizens’ initiative to improve animal welfare, increase adoptions, and decrease overpopulation by providing free and low-cost spay spay/neuter surgeries and low-cost veterinary care to those who qualify. The Trust also provides educational programs, adoptions programs, improved shelter care, assistance to rescue groups, support for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and fostering programs.

In addition to Mayor Porter’s presentation, the successful To Save Lives event featured an exciting announcement from Florida State Representative Barbara Watson. The Representative will be introducing legislation at the state level in support of Pet’s Trust Miami.
