Councilwoman Fairclough Honors MAST Academy as a Top Tier School

Medical Academy for Science and Technology (MAST Academy), Homestead made the top of Newsweek’s “Beating the Odds” annual rankings of 500 schools and was recognized as a top tier school nation-wide, ranking 21st in the country out of 21,000 high schools. To commemorate this stunning achievement, Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough honored the school with a Special Presentation.

Newsweek’ annual ranking “Beating the Odds” criteria considers poverty levels and college readiness scores. MAST @ Homestead had college readiness score of 93.709, with a poverty level of 68.19%, truly “Beating the Odds.”

Councilwoman Fairclough, Chair of the Education Committee, addressed the audience and the honorees, “On behalf of the City of Homestead and the Education Committee, we could not be more proud to honor the work that this school has done and accomplished, not only in our community but across the state and the nation.” Councilwoman Fairclough continued, “For this honor to recognize the school and the City of Homestead is tremendous. It proves that our work in educating the students of Homestead is resulting in positive outcomes.”

MAST @ Homestead Principal Lisa Noffo spoke further of the accomplishments of her students. “We had 122 graduates this year and garnered over $5 million in scholarships, plus our students logged in over 42,000 community service hours. Thank you to our parents, the City of Homestead, and our community, and thank you to our partners; Homestead Hospital and F.I.U with whom students interned and shadowed.”
