Homestead Police Headquarters Opens with Parade and Fanfare

Nearly one thousand people gathered to celebrate the milestone opening of Homestead’s new Police Headquarters—the first building constructed specifically for law enforcement in more than one hundred years of Homestead History.  Community leaders, residents, and distinguished guests cheered as the event kicked off with a parade and fanfare followed by a ribbon cutting and community gathering.

The 55,000 square foot, three-story facility was completed on-time and on-budget thanks to funds approved by an overwhelming 74% of Homestead voters in the decisive 2014 Bond Referendum.  The Headquarters is currently open and serving residents daily at 45 NW 1st Avenue, Homestead, FL 33030.

The impressive building is a community centerpiece that aligns with the vision to revitalize Downtown Homestead.  Other recently completed projects include the City Hall, which opened last year and the Seminole Theatre, which is already providing new cultural opportunities to Homestead’s citizens.  Many new projects are slated to begin soon such as an entertainment, retail, and transit center, and a high-tech public library called the “Cybrary.”

The afternoon began with a parade of police vehicles, local marching bands, elected officials, and city staff through Losner Park and up to the new Police Headquarters through a festively decorated aisle.  Bringing up the rear of the parade was the Homestead Police Department, led by Chief of Police Alexander Rolle and his Command Staff.  As the crowd cheered, the group of officers took their places in front of the stage.

A ceremonial ribbon cutting followed brief remarks from Homestead’s Mayor and Council, City Staff, Police, and visiting dignitaries.  With the ribbon cut, the Headquarters was then opened for tours and a festival geared up outside.  Families enjoyed free popcorn and cotton candy while meeting with their dedicated police force and touring equipment not normally seen by the general public.
